EU residents will be able to disable Tik-Tok algorithms for Android

The platform with short videos is actively being reconfigured to the new EU legislation. The new law on digital services obliges Tick-Tok developers to make some changes by August 28. For example, the most notable of them will be the ability to decide whether to put the algorithms under the control of the For you section.

Tick-Tok informs that very soon users will be able to disable the personalization of the feed. By disabling this feature, the recommendations section will be filled with popular videos from around the world.

Users will also be able to customize content for a specific topic and language. Of course, using the Subscriptions and Friends tabs is not going anywhere. But with the personalized feed feature disabled, videos will be shown in chronological order, not from the most popular.

With the new laws, all social networks must give users the opportunity to view content that is not based on their personal data or preferences.

The platform will also launch the possibility of voting among users for content that, in their opinion, should not be distributed on the platform. A large number of complaints about the video will be processed not only by a special algorithm, but also by a moderator who will decide whether the rules of the platform have been violated and whether the material complies with the laws of the region in which it is shown.
